A second-year B.Tech student allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the rooftop of a building in Tirupati Apartment, located in Jhautalla, under the Rajarhat police station area. The deceased has been identified as Saurav Suman, a resident of Bhagalpur, Bihar, who was pursuing engineering at a private college in Barasat.
According to police sources, Saurav had been battling severe mental depression, reportedly after being betrayed in a romantic relationship. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when two of his friends came to his flat to take him to the college fest, but Saurav refused, stating he would go to the gym instead.
Later that evening, around 9 PM, Saurav made a distressing call to one of his friends, saying he was unwell. Soon after, he went to the Shriram Club Town complex and jumped from the rooftop. Residents immediately rushed him to the hospital in a critical, blood-soaked condition.
Doctors at the hospital, however, declared him dead on arrival. Following the incident, Rajarhat police initiated an investigation and have sent the body for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Preliminary investigation points to emotional distress due to relationship problems as a key factor behind this extreme step. Police are now interrogating his friends and analyzing call records and social media activity to piece together the full sequence of events.
